Tower Lord Vanos Al Myrna is the commander of the Unified Realm's garrison in the Northern Reaches. Although the Northern Reaches are not strictly within the Unified Realm, the region is fortified against the indigenous people in the far north, and to protect the valuable bluestone gem mines. His seat of command is North Tower.

Vanos Al Myrna was a Sword of the Realm and the Battle Lord, until he questioned the King’s word. His role as Battle Lord was stripped and given to Vaelin's father, Kralyk Al Sorna; he and Kralyk were once close comrades. He was exiled to the Northern Reaches as Tower Lord.
Vanos is held in high esteem by many people, including the Seordah Sil and Lonak natives on the southern borders. He freely accepts deniers of the Faith into his lands; either those fleeing the Realm or exiled by the King. At some point, he adopted a Lonak girl that he found lost in the forest, Dahrena. He is famed for fighting a great battle against the Ice Horde, the indigenous peoples who live in the northern Pack Ice.
